The region between Tromsø and Alta remains relatively unknown, but it has a rich Arctic culture, wilderness and exciting activities. Stay off the beaten track and enjoy our exciting local culture and the Northern Lights.

Visit the Reisa National park, learn more about the Norwegian, Sami and Kven culture, go on a dog sledding trip in the Reisa valley and watch the aurora dancing over the untouched wilderness.

1. Day: 
Pick up in Tromsø at the airport or hotel.The drive takes about 3 hours and will give you a first impression of the beautiful nature in our region. Latest departure from Tromsø will be at 14:00.
Check in at the Reisafjord Hotel in Sørkjosen. In the evening, we serve you dinner based on local produce.

Afterwards we will go chasing the Northern Lights. After a short transfer by car, we will find a protected place where we will make a bonfire and wait for the Northern Lights to appear. Back at midnight.

2. Day:
After breakfast, you can try dog sledding in the beautiful Reisa valley.
The trip takes about 2 hours where you will drive your own dog team. During the dog sledding we will stop for a longer break where a hot meal and drinks will be served.

Back at the hotel, coffee, tea and waffles are waiting for you – a good Norwegian tradition.

At about 18.00 (6 pm) we start the culture and culinary experience in the Reisa valley at the Visitors Point for the Reisa National Park. While waiting for the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) to show up, you can warm yourself around the campfire or the stove inside our facilities at Visitors Point. Listen to stories based on local history and culture as we serve you a delicious dinner made from local produce.

Experience the natural surroundings as they appeared to our forefathers – before artificial light, flushing toilets and sealed roads. Listen to folk songs and tales about the landscape, the people who lived here before, local myths, legends and us. Back at the hotel around midnight.

3. Day:
This day you can plan yourself. Add one of the activities mentioned below or visit the villages Sørkjosen and Storslett. Both places offer plenty of shops, some restaurants and a museum.

Dinner in the evening.
If you want, you can book a third Northern Lights Safari for tonight.

4. Day:
If you booked the 4-day trip, transfer back to Tromsø.
If you stay for 5 days, add some exciting activities and explore the winter wonderland with our guides.

Coffee/tea, waffles and dinner included for the 5 day package.

5. Day:
After breakfast transfer back to Tromsø.

Arrival/Departure: every Sunday – Wednesday (4 days) or Wednesday – Sunday (5 days)

Accommodation: Your basecamp will be the Reisafjord Hotel in Sørkjosen. The rooms are newly renovated and offer nice views of the Reisafjord and the mountains. Sitting in the restaurant you can follow the locals working at the harbour and enjoy the view of the Reisafjord while we serve you traditional dishes made from local produce.

Add on activities:

Visit Kronebutikken (2 hours) – 10.00 – 12.00 - Price: NOK 750 per person
Kronebutikken is one of the oldest houses in the region and contains different products/businesses by craftswomen from the region. You will learn more about the meeting of the three tribes, you can try to make your own handcraft with reindeer or fish skin with the craftswoman Hilde Marie Lund, or visit the northernmost syrup factory in the world. Finally, we will show you a multimedia show about the region and we will serve you lunch comprising of local dishes.

Includes: Storytelling, do your own handcraft or visit the northernmost syrup factory of the world, multimedia show, lunch, coffee/tea.

Cross-country skiing (3-4 hours): Price: NOK 1,150 per person
After a short transfer we will go for cross-country skiing. If this is your first time on cross-country skis, our instructor will help you to learn this most traditional Norwegian sport.
You will take a longer break during the trip where we will rest by a camp fire and serve snacks and hot drinks.

Included: Guide, ski equipment, transfer, hot drinks and snacks.

Moose Safari with snowshoes (3-4 hours): Price: NOK 1,150 per person
Join us on a snowshoe trip where we go in search of the biggest mammal in Norway, the moose. During the trip, we will make a bonfire and you will be served hot drinks and snacks.

Included: Guide, Snowshoes, hot lunch and transfer

Northern Lights safari as mentioned on the first evening (4 hours) – NOK 1,150 per person

Snowmobile tour with Ice fishing (4 hours) – NOK 1,900 per person
After a short transfer, your guides will bring you into the mountains with a snowmobile. You will sit in a sledge. When arrived at the frozen lake, you have the chance to try to drive a snowmobile by yourself. We will then drill some holes into the ice and try our luck with fishing.

We serve warm drinks and a warm meal. After around two hours, we return.

Whale watching: (3-4 hours) - NOK 1,950 per person
From November til January killer- and humpback whales are hunting herring in the fjord around Reisa and Skjervøy. We will go out in a boat to watch them.

Included: warm clothes, warm drinks and snacks

Season: 1 December 2018 until 31 March 2019 (except 20-26 December 2018) 

Last arrival date before Christmas is 19.12.18

First arrival date after Christmas is 27.12.18

Important note:

Bad weather can cause many problems in the high arctic– flights and boats are cancelled or delayed and activities cannot proceed as planned. Please note that as a consequence the programme can be changed at short notice.

Activities: we reserve the right to modify the programme in the Reisa valley. We will do all activities, but we may change the day.

In case of bad weather, the flight from Tromsø to Sørkjosen may be cancelled. You will take a bus to Sørkjosen (3 hours) and meet up at the airport as per the flight details.
